While there are many stunning spots throughout Wollongong and beyond, these four locations are my absolute favorites. 1. Bombo Headland & Beach – A Dramatic Coastal Backdrop

Bombo Headland is one of the most striking locations in the Illawarra for photography. The combination of its rugged rock formations, towering cliffs, and golden tassel grass creates a truly dramatic scene. I love bringing maternity clients here—there’s something so powerful about a glowing mum-to-be surrounded by this incredible natural landscape. The mix of textures, from the soft grasses to the bold volcanic rock, makes for a visually stunning contrast in any season.

2. Woonona Beach – A Perfect Blend of Beach and Rocks

Woonona Beach is a hidden gem for family and maternity photography. The long, open stretch of sand gives families plenty of space to run and play, while the rocky outcrops near the shoreline add depth and character to each shot. For maternity sessions, the natural rock formations create a beautiful frame, and for family shoots, the kids love exploring the rock pools while I capture those candid moments. Sunset here is absolutely magical, with the soft, golden light reflecting off the ocean and rocks.

3. Sandon Point Beach – Unique Landscape & Charming Boat Sheds

Sandon Point is one of my favourite places for photography because of its diverse scenery. Not only do you get a stunning stretch of beach, but the historic boat sheds add a rustic, coastal charm that is unlike anywhere else in the Illawarra. The rocky shoreline near the water provides texture and dimension, making it perfect for maternity and newborn sessions. The grassy headland above the beach also offers a great spot for capturing family portraits with the ocean in the background.

4. Corrimal Beach – A Family & Pet-Friendly Haven

Corrimal Beach is a fantastic location, especially for families who want to include their fur babies in their photos! The bushland backdrop makes this beach unique, giving a mix of coastal and natural greenery in one setting. Families love the open space, which allows kids (and dogs!) to run freely while I capture those real, unfiltered moments of joy. Whether it's a playful family session or a maternity shoot surrounded by soft dunes and native trees, Corrimal Beach always delivers timeless images.
